About Royse City

Welcome to Royse City, “A Friendly Touch of Texas.” Located east of Rockwall, Royse City is a growing city that has a small town feel. Fewer than 3000 people called Royse City home in 2000. By 2014 that number had grown to 10,757 with new home sales continuing to rise. Equally easy access to metropolitan amenities of Dallas/Fort Worth and natural escapes to state parks, friendly people, over a dozen churches and a growing school district explain the phenomenal growth.

Since 2007, Royse City has been an officially designated Texas Main Street community. This program is part of Texas Historical Commission’s Community Heritage Development Division. In 2017, Royse City was awarded National Accreditation for ongoing progress under the Main Street program. Visit Old Jail Park in the downtown area to see a two-cell calaboose from days gone by.

The city is named after G.B. Royse. In 1886 he first platted the land and sold its first lots. People were excited by the news that the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad would be built in that area. From those early years as a settlement on the prairie, the area has grown into a city dedicated to serving its citizens by providing and maintaining parks, a museum and a public library.

Four playgrounds, three catch and release ponds, and 1.5 miles of nature trails and jogging paths can be enjoyed on the city’s nearly 45 acres of developed parkland. Citizens can also access a baseball/softball complex, soccer complex, and several practice fields. The C.F. Goodwin Library is open six days a week to support recreational reading and life-long learning. The library also offers family-oriented programs, from story times for children, book clubs, family game nights and a quilt club.

The Zaner Robinson Historical Museum, located in a building that is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and in the National Register of Historic Places, depicts Blackland Prairie life from early settlers through the 1960s.

Travel west for unique shopping, cultural events, and night life in Dallas and Fort Worth. Start a distant vacation or family trip from Dallas Love Field or DFW airport. If your idea of relaxation is found in nature, there are many state parks to choose from. Get away for a day or for a long weekend at nearby Lake Tawakoni. Enjoy the water whether you fish, boat or swim. Escape into nature to camp, hike or birdwatch.
